Do teachers need a better way to record their PLD?

We’ve been talking to a lot of teachers lately, trying to find out how they manage and track their PLD, especially given their heavy workloads and lack of spare time. What really surprised us was the completely different methods taken by teachers to capture and record their PLD activities, these included Google Docs, Excel spreadsheets, Power Point presentations and Word documents, to name a few. We saw a full array of software and methods used, highlighting to us, the need for a more streamlined and systemised approach.

Another big take-out from this research was the real lack of time that teachers had allocated to the actual recording of what they did, many told us that it was time consuming and often left to the last minute. Having to open up a spreadsheet or make notes on a Google document made it less appealing and they naturally pushed this task further down their To-do lists.

Centralise everything and make PLD easy?

This initial research has convinced us to create a PLD tracking system within PD able (other systems are on the drawing board) that teachers can use to help streamline this whole process.
