About PD able - Basic professional development

This is the PD able default system. It is a suite of essential tools crafted to help your professional journey thrive. It is suited to people from any walks of life wanting to actively address continuing education.

The system is geared around recording completion of activities, and then being able to report on those achievements. Planning and tracking are overlaid to round out the package.

Structure

The PD able default system cycle is built on a calendar year, running annually from 1 Jan - 31 Dec. This gives a relevant window of focus that planning and goals are structured around.

In this system you keep a simple record of completed activities. The descriptions are self-explanatory so when reviewed paint a clear picture of your ongoing progress.

Building Blocks

The system has key building blocks which help organise and understand your approach.

Areas of Competency are the relevant topics that PD is measured against. Competencies in PD able default system are deliberately kept very generic as they apply to all professions. Custom PD systems will normally define competencies that align with topics specific to their target profession.

An Activity is a single learning instance such as an online Module or an Event Attendance. Completion of an Activity can entered using one of over 30 'Activity Type' templates provided.

Activities are also aligned with Learning Methods. These are labels such as Structured and Self Directed and are designed to provide insight to the environments where activity is being completed.

We hope you enjoy using this system.

Areas of Competency

The following is a copy of the framework set out by: PD able

Profession Maintenance

Keeping abreast of technology, trends and best practice in your profession.

Your profession is skilled territory. It takes time to learn and perfect, so you can operate with levels of competency that others can trust.

This topic is for the time you spend targeting your specialty, growing your expertise and keeping in touch with changes happening in the world.

Administration & Commerce

Advancing capability to run an organisation.

All organisations have commercial needs, whether not for profit, government institution or a private company.

Managing people, understanding accounts, optimising resources or keeping abreast of legal issues are activities that nearly every professional has deal with in some capacity.

This topic gives recognition to the importance of being able to apply your professional skills in a real world environment.

Formal Education

Working toward a significant new skill and/or qualification in your profession.

Working to complete a formal qualification typically requires dedicated and lengthy commitment. Unlike other PD Activities, this is normally means time spent away from your profession with energy directed to the learning environment.

This topic recognises the special growth achieved while pursuing academically and profressionally recognised outcomes.

Extracurricular

Out of profession activity that indirectly strengthens capability.

Real people bring real quality to their professional environment.

While many activities in your personal life do not directly relate to your profession, many times the same fabric applies in both spaces.

Time spent running sports clubs, helping with school camps, arranging a wedding or building a car all carry qualities that transfer into your professional environment. The challenges faced, planning and perseverance required all carry through.

Use this topic to recognise the learning from these 'out of office' situations, and note how the learning carries through to your working life.
