About Physiotherapy AU professional development

The Physiotherapy AU Continuing Professional Development System has been carefully structured to suit this echelon of registered Physiotherapists Nationwide in Australia.

The Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (ACT) Act 2010 sets out the compliance framework within Australia. This legislation gives direction on requirements that registered nurses must demonstrate capability and experience against to retain their annual registration requirements. The Physiotherapy Board is the authority commissioned to apply these guidelines.

This CPD System is a powerful tool that equips physiotherapists with a simple pathway to compliance within the framework. Equally important, it is also a system that propagates professionalism and career development.

A dashboard presents a series of simple charts, data tables and KPI's that summarise all the detailed records. This gives clear direction on progress towards targets, plus it highlights where energy has been spent and where the gaps are. Behind is a rich environment where completion of CPD activities can be recorded, professional learning plans (PDPs) can be run, resources can be found along with access to a host of supporting tools.

SYSTEM SUMMARY

The National Law requires all registered health practitioners to renew their registration with their National Board annually. Ahpra manages the registration and renewal process on behalf of the National Boards. Submitting this requires a declaration of meeting the 'registration standard' requirements. These are described as:

  • criminal history
  • professional indemnity insurance (PII) - Under the National Law, nurses and midwives must not practise the profession in which they are registered unless they hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance (PII) arrangements in relation to their practice
  • recency of practice - completion of a minimum of 450 hours of practice within the past three years or 150 hours of practice in the previous registration year
  • CPD - a minimum of 20 hours annually
