The South Australian Lawyers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) System helps practitioners meet regulatory standards while fostering professional growth. Aligned with the Law Society of South Australia’s MCPD framework, it delivers an efficient and supportive path to compliance.
PD able’s tool includes an interactive dashboard with visuals and KPIs that monitor CPD progress, highlight gaps, and show where you're investing your development efforts. Beneath the surface, the platform lets you log activities, run PDPs, access learning resources, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
SYSTEM SUMMARY
To maintain your practising certificate in South Australia, you must complete 10 CPD units each year from 1 April to 31 March. This must include at least 1 unit in each of four required areas:
- Practical legal ethics
- Practice management or business skills
- Professional skills
- Bullying, discrimination and harassment
Each interactive hour (seminars, workshops, webinars, etc.) counts as 1 CPD unit. You may also claim 1 unit per hour for recorded or non-interactive activities, up to a maximum of 5 passive units per year.
- Units earned in January–March can be carried forward to the next CPD year but cannot be counted twice.
Practitioners must maintain written records for 3 years, including details of each activity—name, date, provider, format, and units earned. The Law Society conducts annual random audits, and practitioners must produce records promptly upon request.
